Dr Kweku Tandoh, new chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission
Former board member of Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Prince Isidore Oduah has hailed the appointment of Dr Kweku Tandoh as the new chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission.
Dr Tandoh was recently appointed to head the sports commission by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
Prince Oduah, four time board member of Anambra State Sports Council (ANSSC) told PM EXPRESS in Lagos at the weekend that he was so elated when he heard of Dr Tandoh’s appointment, adding that he has no doubt that he would succeed in his new job.
“I  can say categorically that success runs in the family of Tandoh. I had worked with Dr Tandoh’s father, Dr. Joseph Kwamina Tandoh. He was popularly known as J. K Tandoh. He was my Vice Chairman in the NFA while I was a board member. Sunday Dankaro (chairman of WAHUM) was our chairman on the board of NFA then.  He was founding president of the West African Football Union (WAFU).
“J. K. Tandoh was an intelligent and a wonderful man. He succeeded as a Pharmacist and a football administrator. He was the engine room of the NFA because he was in  charge of everything then. So when I heard that his son had been appointed as the chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, I was not surprised. I could only say that Governor Ambode put round peg in round hole in Lagos sports.
Prince Isidore Oduah (left) presents Footballer of the year – Africa to representative of Ikechukwu Ezenwa during the Nigerian Awards for Sporting Excellence held in Lagos recently.
“I want the son to perform like his father. He can conveniently wear the shoes of his father. I see Lagos Sports going places under Dr Tandoh. He did wonderfully well as the Secretary of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of Eko 2012 National Sports Festival, which had been adjudged as the best in the history of sports festival in Nigeria. He also did well as the Director of Sports in Lagos during Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola’s tenure. So I know what I’m saying, ” Prince Oduah said.
Oduah also praised Mr Deji Tinubu, the Special Adviser on Sports to the Governor of Lagos, who Dr Tandoh succeeded in the sports commission. He said Governor Ambode retaining Tinubu as a cabinet member showed that his contribution to sports development is recognised.
