Chairperson of Lagos State Gymnastics Association, Mrs. Moyo Ogunseinde

As the gymnastics events of the 19th National Sports Festival in Abuja begin on Thursday, Chairperson of Lagos State Gymnastics Association, Mrs Moyo Ogunseinde says her athletes are in competition mood to win a good number of medals in their sport.

She disclosed that Lagos is well positioned when it comes to gymnastics in the country, as the the state can boast of young and talented gymnasts, infrastructure and conducive environment.

“We prepared these athletes for the festival. The athletes are so excited. We have 10 boys and 10 girls competing in this festival. We have the most youngest team in this Games and also we have some experienced athletes as well. My expectation is that we are going to go far and win many medals for Team Lagos.

” I can tell you that we have the talent, the team and the equipment at our disposal,” said.

She further disclosed that the morale in camp is very high with the athletes getting what they need. This, according to her, has made the gymnasts to be in good mood to compete.

“How are wish we have enough lights in the hall, as you can see the lighting of the gym is very poor. I hope the organisers will solve this problem as soon as possible,” she said.

My Agenda. For Lagos Gymnastics

Mrs Ogunseinde, an avid lover of gymnastics disclosed her immediate plans to lift up the fortune of the game in Lagos, saying: “our plan is to make Gymnastics the pillar of sports in Lagos. We can do it because we have everything at our disposal to succeed.

” Going forward, we need to build on what we have for us to make Gymnastics one of the key pillars of sports in Lagos. We must encourage people around us for them to cue in to our programmes to lift the game up. We must also mobilise all stakeholders to support the vision we have for the sport, thank goodness we have people on the board who are also passionate of the game.

“As the new board of the association, our priority is to examine where we are now and from there chart a course to where we are go and where we should be. What is key is to involve all stakeholders because everyone has fallen apart. We need to bring everyone on the same page. We need to bring all the athletes, all the coaches, the technical officers and even the parents together for everybody to share the same vision of lifting the game up in Lagos state. After this we will come up with strategic plans which we will share with the sports commission.

“We have a good future ahead of us and with the successes the association had in the past we will bring our experience in the private sector to add lasting values to Gymnastics in Lagos state,” Ogunseinde said..
