There was drama at the police station after a man who bears similar names with a serving Commissioner of Police in Lagos insisted that he was indeed the CP whereas he was fake.

The police officers from the Intelligence Response Team, IRT, Lagos Zone, arrested a 61-year old, Sanni Mohammed, who faked to be a serving Commissioner of Police in charge of Monitoring Intelligence Unit, CP Abu Sanni Mohammed.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the IRT office annex located at Harold Shodipo Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

It was gathered that the suspect, Sanni, was there to bail someone who was detained and when he got there he went straight to the IPO in charge of the matter, one Babakaka Lawan. He was said to have introduced himself as CP Sanni Mohammed in charge of Police Monitoring Intelligence Unit and sought for the release of the suspect arrested for conspiracy and stealing.
Unknown to him, the officer he met with knew the real CP Abu Mohammed too well and that was how he was subsequently arrested and asked to write statement.

It was then he confessed that he was not the real CP though they shared similar names and he took advantage of that.
The police found him culpable and charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for impersonation before the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Y.O. Aje-Afunwa.
The prosecutor, Mr. Peter Nwaogwugwu, asked the Court to give a date for hearing on the matter to enable the police to prove the matter.
He was granted bail in the sum N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The court ordered him to be remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till 11th July, 2019.
