Police operatives from the Tactical team of the Area M Command, Idimu annex, have arrested a 36-year old lady, who posed as an EFCC officer, abducted and obtained about N4.7m ransom in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the lady, Olubunmi Rosaline Akanbi, posed as an EFCC officer and abducted a man, Aluwelu Ezekiel Ogonna, in Isolo area of Lagos.

She took the man to Itele area of Ogun State, where she forced him to transfer N1.950m ransom from his bank account to her own Stanbic-IBTC bank account with account name, Boma Snown, before he regained freedom. Apart from that,  she robbed him of his iPhone 15 promax worth N2.8m.

She has been arrested and charged for kidnapping, robbery and impersonation under the Criminal Laws of the Lagos State.

According to the Police, the suspect forged EFCC Identification card with another name, Stella Adeyemi and posed as an EFCC investigation officer with others now at large. They abducted the victim and held him captive until ransom was paid before she released him.

However, after the victim regained her freedom, he reported what happened to the Police. The operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and detained her for investigation over her alleged conduct.

During the investigation, the Police discovered that she was not a staff of the EFCC and all the documents she had were forged including the signature on the identity card.

Thus, the Police found her culpable and consequently charged her before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

She pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the seriousness of the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, ordered her remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.

The matter was adjourned till 12th July, 2024, for mention for the DPP’s report to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
