CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
A 30-year old man, Fabulous Okoro who pretended to be a military officer has been arrested and charged before a Lagos court for impersonation and stealing after he was apprehended at Balogun Market at Trade Fair Complex in Lagos.
The incident happened at Sokoto plaza of the market where it was gathered that some suspected criminals used to wear military uniform and come to the market to intimidate and extort the traders.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect wore Nigeria Army fez cap and other military wears, entered a shop and stole a phone belonging to one Nkechi Obinabu and left.
While he was leaving the owner caught him and demanded for her phone, but he claimed that he was an army officer.
She then raised alarm and contacted the market leaders who directed the market task force to apprehend the suspect and bring him to the union’s office.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that during interrogation, he confessed that he was not an army officer as he had earlier claimed but refused to disclose where he got the military wears.
He was handed over to the police at Trade Fair Division who later charged him before Apapa Magistrates court for the alleged offence.
He pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr M. A. Etti granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail.
The matter was adjourned till 14 July 2017.
