A 32-year old fake Pastor, Aboyomi Fagbemi, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a lady, Onyeozi Fransisca, under the false pretence of conducting deliverance prayer.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Fagbemi, accosted the victim, Onyeozi Fransisca, along Ikotun Roundabout, in Ikotun and gave her a prophecy, which she believed and followed him to an unknown place for purported deliverance prayer.

During the purported prayer, she was forced to deposit her phone worth N120,000 and cash of N30,000 on her and they touched all parts of her body under the false pretence of deliverance prayer.

However, after the said prayer, she realized that she has been swindled of her phone and money. She then went to the Police at Ikotun Division and reported what happened. The Police moved into action and arrested the suspect while others are still at large.

During interrogation, the suspect told the Police that the victim deposited her phone for the prayer, which they have fulfilled and if the prayer was answered or not was left for God to decide.

The Police found him culpable for conspiring, stealing and parading himself as a holy preacher under the Criminal Laws of the State.

Tthe charges read:

That you, Abayomi Fagbemi ‘M’ and others still at large, on 13th November, 2024 at about 0730hrs along Ikotun Round-about, Ikotun Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire together to commit felony to wit; stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411, of the Lagos State Criminal Laws, 2015.”

COUNT II: That you, Abayomi Fagbemi ‘M’ and others still at large, on same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace, by parading yourselves to be holy preachers and also took one Onyeozi Fransisca ‘F’ to an unknown destination against her will, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 168(d), of the Lagos State Criminal Laws, 2015.”

COUNT III: That you, Abayomi Fagbemi ‘M’ and others still at large, on same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did unlawfully steal the sum of Thirty Thousand Six Hundred and Fifty Naira only (N30,650.00) and a Tecno Pop 8Pro, valued at One Hundred and Twenty Thousand Naira only (N120,000.00) altogether valued at One Hundred and Fifty Thousand, Six Hundred and Fifty Naira Only (N150,650.00), property of one Onyeozi Fransisca ‘F’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287, of the Lagos State Criminal Laws, 2015.”

However, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted him bail with surety, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while address will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned till 10th December, 2024, while the defendant was remanded in custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
