A 41-year-old man, Olatunde Ramon Amos, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly impersonating as a Police officer and possessing a toy gun during a late-night operation in Lekki.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 8th March, 2026, at about 1:00am, where the Police said Olatunde and others now at large were intercepted along Ajah Road, Lekki, during a tactical patrol.
It was gathered from legal experts that impersonating Police officers is a major security threat in Lagos. Criminals often use fake uniforms and toy guns to rob victims at night. Section 77 of the Law carries up to 3 years jail, while conspiracy under Section 413 can attract 7 years or more.
He was found culpable and charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence under the Criminal Law of the State.
The charges read:
“That you, Olatunde Ramon Amos ‘m’ and others now at large, on the 8th day of March, 2026 at about 0100hrs, at Ajah Road, Lekki, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: unlawful possession of iron toy gun and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 413 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Olatunde Ramon Amos ‘m’ and others now at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did unlawfully have in your possession one iron toy gun, which you cannot give satisfactory account of how you came about it and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 330(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Olatunde Ramon Amos ‘m’ and others now at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did impersonate Nigeria Police by wearing Nigerian Police camouflage face cap to present yourself as a member of armed Forces and thereby committed an offence contrary Section 77(a)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
The defendant landed in trouble after he was arrested by the Police operatives from the Tactical team led by SP Banti Adamu, Officer in Charge of Command Tactical Squad 1, Lagos State Police Headquarters, Ikeja.
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
