A fake soldier and three others including a 60-year old man have been nabbed in Lagos by police operatives over illegal possession of firearms.
The suspects were identified as Ismaila Ebenezer, 38, (fake soldier), Hilary Nwoha, 40, Iwuagwu Joseph, 33 and Iwuanyanwu Ifeanyi, 60.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects were apprehended on 6th January, 2019, at about 6pm by operatives of the Lagos Command attached to the Anti cultism Unit.
It was gathered that the suspects were arrested in a Toyota Camry Saloon car with the illegal firearms while the police operatives were on routine patrol. During the search of the vehicle, the firearms identified as a pump action rifle was said to have been recovered by the cops.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Edgal Imohimi, confirmed the arrest on Monday during a press briefing. The suspects were also paraded with others at the State Command.
The police boss said, “On January 6, 2019, at about 1800hrs, operatives of the Command attached to the Anti-cultism Unit, while on routine patrol intercepted a Toyota Camry Saloon Car with four occupants: 1. Ismaila Ebenizer ‘m’ 38, (fake soldier) 2. Hilary Nwoha ‘m’ 40, 3. Iwuagwu Joseph ‘m’ 33, 4. Iwuanyanwu Ifeanyi ‘m’ 60. On searching their vehicle, a pump action rifle was recovered.
Investigations so far revealed that the suspects belonged to a kidnapping gang terrorizing the Ikorodu axis of the state.
Edgal said that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.
