A 25-year old Odusanya Michael, who dressed as a member of the Lagos State Task Force and moved about extorting and collecting tolls from the public has been arrested.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect was arrested for impersonation and extortion under false pretence.
The incident happened along Olorunsogo Road in Mushin area of Lagos.
It was gathered that Mr. Michael and others now at large, had been posing as Lagos Task Force members on environment and other related offences and had been collecting money from unsuspecting members of the public. They were said to have carried out enforcement orders and collected money with violence from the victims.
Some of the victims were Shogo Ogunbiyi and Muhammed Ndako, from who they were alleged to have forcefully extorted huge sum of money.
The information got to the police who set trap and arrested Michael while others escaped.
He was charged before Ogba Magistrates court for the alleged offence.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Edet Ekadu did not oppose his bail.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Layinka granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter has been adjourned till 26th July, 2018.
