L-R: Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Toyin Gafaar, Executive Chairman of the Commission, Sola Aiyepeku and Chairman Lagos FA, Seyi Akinwunmi

The Chairperson of the Nigeria Women Football League, Aisha Falode, is full of plaudits for the Lagos State Sports Commission, headed by the Executive Chairman, Mr. Sola Aiyepeku and the Director-General, Mr. Oluwatoyin Gafaar, for their brilliant contributions to the change of fortunes for the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership club, FC Robo, and women football development generally in the state and indeed in Nigeria.

Falode, on Monday, took time off to commend the two eggheads of the Lagos Sports Commission for the wonderful contributions that spurred on the Lagos State Governor, His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to donate a brand new Toyota Coastal bus to the state’s lone women premiership club, FC Robo at the weekend in Lagos.

The NWFL boss, who is also a board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), stressed that: “The full involvement of the Chairman Lagos Sports Commission and the Director-General, in the Nigerian Women’s Football revolution at the NWFL Super Six early this year at the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, lifted FC Robo to the Pinnacle of women football development in Nigeria as they contested for the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership title until after the competition’s final game.

Falode added: “The Sports Commission’s eggheads with their roles in Ijebu-Ode, gave FC Robo a sense of belonging as a Lagos State team that represented the state with all its accomplishments. And the club were close to becoming Nigeria’s champions and the country’s representatives to the CAF Champions League until the last sets of matches.

“It’s obvious that the roles played by Aiyepeku and Gafaar, at the Super Six in Ijebu Ode, was the build-up to the donation of a brand new Toyota Coastal bus to FC Robo.

“These sports technocrats must be commended for this and many other good things that will come the way of the club from the Lagos State Government.“

The NWFL Chairperson admonished the Lagos government to exploit all opportunities to make FC Robo more comfortable.

Falode, went on to applaud the Lagos State government for the roles it played in the past for the further development of the Nigeria Women Football League.

“Since we came into office in the leadership of the NWFL, it was only the Lagos State Sports Commission that has hosted the Super Six twice. And also hosted one of the only two NWFL Champions Shields we have hosted in the history of women’s football in Nigeria. We commend the Lagos State Sports Commission and by extension the Lagos State government for the love for women’s football,” Aisha Falode said.
