On Sunday, 3rd May, 2026, the family and the congregation of S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Oke-Afa, Isolo, Lagos, gathered for a thanksgiving service marking the completion of the mourning rites for late Mr. Chukwuemeka Anthony Mbadugha.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the late Mbadugha passed away on 9th August, 2025 at the age of 47 and was laid to rest on 30th October, 2025.
The church, located in the heart of Ejigbo, was filled with family members, parishioners, friends, and well-wishers who came to honour his memory and give thanks to God for his life. The service reflected both grief and a celebration of a life well lived.
The late Mbadugha was the son-in-law of Eze Alex Sunday Nwoye (Onyendu) and the Bobaselu of Ejigbo. His marriage strengthened ties between his family and the broader Igbo community in Lagos.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Eze Alex Sunday Nwoye expressed deep gratitude to the church and the community, describing the late Mbadugha as not just a son-in-law, but a beloved son whose presence brought joy and stability to the family.
The thanksgiving service marked the formal end of the mourning period—a significant tradition in Igbo culture—signifying acceptance of God’s will and a readiness to move forward while preserving cherished memories.
The condolence register opened in August 2025 at the residence of Eze Nwoye received an outpouring of sympathy from traditional rulers, community leaders, business associates, and members of the church. Many described the late Mbadugha as respectful, hardworking, and devoted to his family.
Members of the Igbo community and Ohanaeze Ndigbo both in-laws, close friends, wellwishers and business associates in Ejigbo attended in large numbers, dressed in traditional attires. The service featured hymns, Bible readings, and special prayers for the repose of his soul and for strength for the family.
The choir rendered moving hymns that inspired quiet reflection across the congregation.
Following the Mass, guests were received at the family’s residence, where brief remarks were made. Community leaders offered words of comfort and emphasized unity and continued support for the family.
Eze Nwoye, visibly moved, reiterated his appreciation:
“We thank God for the life of our son-in-law, Chukwuemeka Anthony Mbadugha. Though his passing is painful, we are consoled by the outpouring of love from Ndigbo, the church, and the entire Ejigbo community. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
Mbadugha is survived by his wife, children, and extended family.
The family expressed gratitude to all who supported them from the time of his passing through the completion of the mourning rites and requested continued prayers.
May the soul of Chukwuemeka Anthony Mbadugha, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
