The Honourable Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has assured industrial operators along the 132kV Ikorodu–Sagamu corridor of sustained electricity supply, while warning that the Federal Government will take firm action against energy theft, meter tampering and other practices that undermine the integrity of the power system.
He gave the assurance during a high-level engagement with industrial customers on the corridor. The meeting followed concerns raised over significant discrepancies between electricity supplied to the area and energy accounted for by market participants.
The Ikorodu–Sagamu corridor has grown into one of Nigeria’s major industrial clusters and hosts some of the country’s largest electricity consumers.
According to officials, improved visibility of power flows through the Nigerian Independent System Operator, NISO, technology-based monitoring systems since 2024 has revealed troubling anomalies in energy consumption and loading patterns on the line.
By 2026, the discrepancies had become more difficult to reconcile. Data presented at the meeting indicated that losses on the corridor reached as high as 100MW. Officials estimated the financial impact at about N120 billion in one year.
Speaking at the engagement, Minister Tegbe said the Government’s priority is to ensure that industries receive the electricity required to sustain production and investment. He however, stressed that reliable supply must be matched by responsible consumption and accurate payment.
“We must know where the power is going and what is compromising it,” the Minister said. He directed stakeholders to establish the facts through transparent, scientific and fair investigation.
Tegbe warned that the Government would not tolerate meter tampering, deliberate interference with energy measurement, manipulation of data or any other form of energy theft that deprives the electricity market of legitimate revenue.
“Every consumer must be responsible for its actions and consumption,” he added.
The Minister’s intervention comes as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to improve accountability and financial discipline across the electricity value chain. The goal, according to him, is to maintain a stable operating environment for productive industries while protecting government revenue.
He urged all parties to approach the process with openness and a commitment to resolving outstanding issues. He noted that the sustainability of Nigeria’s power sector depends on accountability from every participant in the value chain, from generation to distribution and end-use.
In attendance at the meeting were the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer and Executive Directors of NISO. Also present were representatives of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, the Managing Directors of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company and Ikeja Electric, as well as representatives of companies operating within the corridor.
Stakeholders at the meeting agreed to set up a joint technical committee to audit consumption data, verify metering installations, and submit recommendations to the Ministry of Power within a defined timeline.
