The Federal Government has declared June 12 as a public holiday to commemorate Democracy Day.
This declaration was made in an official statement issued by the Honourable Minister for Interior, Honorable Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The statement underscored the importance of the date in the nation’s democratic history.
The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr Tunji-Ojo, emphasized the significance of this public holiday as an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the values of democracy, unity, and national progress. He called on citizens to use the day to engage in activities that promote civic responsibility and strengthen democratic institutions.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring that the sacrifices made by past heroes of democracy are honoured and remembered.
