A 39-year old female Banker, Christiana Oyeleye, has been arrested in Lagos State alongside her accomplice, Mr. Adelana Adewusi, 39, for allegedly conspiring to swindle a woman, Mrs. Esther Adesanya, to the tune of N13m under the false pretence of changing the money into foreign currency.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the two suspects have been charged before the Court for conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence, stealing and issuing a dud cheque.
When they were arraigned before the Ogba Magistrates Court,  the prosecutor, Supol Raji Akeem, told the Court that the offences were committed on 7th October, 2022, at Oko Oba, Agege, Lagos, after Adewusi introduced Christiana to the victim, Mrs. Adesanya, as a banker that could help her change Naira to Dollars.
Supol Akeem told the Court that the complainant paid N13 million into the second defendant’s account to help her send it to the first defendant, Christiana, to change it to Dollars.
However, after she made the payment, they both absconded with the money and disconnected every communication with the complainant. Since then, all efforts by the complainant to get her money had failed.
They were later trailed and arrested by the Police and the defendants gave the complainant a cheque to the tune of the amount. But on getting to the bank, it was dishonoured because of insufficient funds.
The Police found them culpable and subsequently charged them before the Court for the alleged offences, which contravened the Laws of the state and attract several years of imprisonment if found guilty.
However, they pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendants bail in the sum N1 million each with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 30th March, 2023, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
