A 29-year old female hotel attendant, Comfort Asogu, has been arrested and charged for allegedly stealing N. 627m being money realized from hotel rooms given out customers in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at OAlex Hotel located at Amoo Street, Orile, Agege area of Lagos, where she was employed as an attendant by the owner, Alexander Ozor.
According to the Police, the suspect was employed by the owner, Mr. Ozor, to be in charge of renting out rooms to customers but she did so to the tune of the said amount and converted the money to personal use without remitting it to the company’s account.
The matter was exposed after the management suspected that money was missing from the department, conducted an internal audit and discovered that she had not remitted the money.
Thus, the matter was reported to the Police. She was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct, which she denied during the interrogation.
However, the Police found her culpable and consequently charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
She pleaded not guilty.
Tthe prosecutor, Inspector Innocent Odugbo, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Miss M. F. Onamusi, granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with a surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
