The first civilian Governor of Anambra state, Chief Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife (Okwadike), who died on December 14, 2023, was given a state burial at his hometown Igboukwu, Aguata Local Government area of Anambra State on Saturday, 20th April, 2024.

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo state represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the burial.

According to Governor Uzodimma; “Late Chief Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife (Okwadike) was a pan-Nigerian, well known for his foresight in the development of Igbo nation and Nigeria at large. While we mourn Okwadike, we must promote his legacy of sustainable growth across our region and the nation”.

Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo said;
“As we bid farewell to this great son of Anambra State, lets not forget the indelible imprints he left on the sands of time, an authentication of his uncompromising commitment to the wellbeing of our people and our beloved nation. Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife was a man of extraordinary intellect, with an insatiable thirst for knowledge”.

Former Anambra state Governor, Mr Peter Obi said; “Chief Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Okwadike Igboukwu was an exceptional patriot, father figure to many, an elder statesman. His death remains a huge loss to the nation. He was a man who preached justice, lived it out and always fought for it. He was committed to a fair and just Nigeria, that cares for all, where every individual will be treated fairly.

He was a detribalised Nigerian who demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the progress and development of our nation”.

Senator Uche Ekwunife (Iyom) Ph.D, Director General of the South East Governors Forum said; “Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife’s passing leaves an indelible void, and his legacy as a nationalist and stalwart advocate for Ndigbo resonates profoundly.
His distinguished service as the first executive governor of Anambra state, a federal permanent secretary, and a political luminary marked a significant chapter in our nation’s history. Dr. Ezeife’s unwavering commitment to the betterment of his people and his pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s sociopolitical sphere makes his loss even more profound”.
