Former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, has advised Government on the need for increase in minimum wage and stated that the N30,000 minimium wage was no longer acceptable anywhere in the world and cannot sustain any beneficiary for meaningful living.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Gen. Abubakar, who is the chairman of National Peace Committee stated this during the reconciliation summit in Taraba State.
He advised that citizens of Nigerians should not only limit their revenue to their minimum wages but grab the opportunity to harness the resources around them to improve their standard of living.
Gen. Abubakar stated this on 16th November, 2023, at a Maiden Peace, Unity, and Reconciliation Summit that was organized by the Taraba Independent Committee.
He also addressed the people of Taraba State to build their society with natural resources, adding that the State is blessed with natural resources, which they will develop and develop the State.
The former Head of State warned against disunity and lack of peace among the people and advised that they should build a healthy society, where peace and unity must be appreciated for necessary development to thrive.
“I want to plead with the Nigerian President that the N30,000 national minimum wage cannot take Nigerians anywhere. It is not acceptable anywhere in the world and it cannot develop anybody. There is an urgent need to increase the wages for the betterment of our growth” he stated.
