Former President Shagari Buried In Sokoto

Nigeria’s Former President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died on Friday, was buried today in Sokoto.

The late former President was flown from Abuja where he passed on to Sokoto for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

His body was received at the Sultan Abubakar International Airport in Sokoto by the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal. From the airport, his body was transported to his hometown in Shagari Local Government area of the state.

His remains was laid to rest this evening at his private residence in his hometown after Islamic rites and prayers led by Prof. Shehu Galadanchi, a former Vice Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.

Shagari, who was 93, died at about 6:40pm at the National Hospital in Abuja. He was said to have been flown to Abuja after his health deteriorated.
