Four men have been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area, for allegedly swapping their wives for sexual satisfaction.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that they were arrested over allegations of criminal conspiracy, adultery, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
The suspects were Bashir Adamu of Comprehensive Area, Auwalu Mohammed of Gadum Area, Mohammed of Sabuwar NEPA Area, and Salisu Mohammed of the same locality.
According to the Police, the men were brought to the Azare Division by the Zonal Commander of Hisbah, Katagum Zone, Mallam Rilwan Khairan. The Hisbah commander said the arrests followed complaints from residents and information from individuals within the group.
The suspects were accused of entering into an agreement to exchange their wives among themselves for sexual intercourse. Authorities said the alleged act violated both Islamic teachings and societal norms.
Khairan identified the group as the “Wuddadu group” and stated that the suspects allegedly carried out the act under the guise of temporary marriages. He described the practice as contrary to public morality and public order.
He explained that the Hisbah enforcement unit, known as “Operation Ko Ba Kobo,” raided the group’s hideout in Azare and apprehended the four men after receiving intelligence on their activities. The operation was carried out without resistance.
The Zonal Commander said the arrests were made to prevent a breakdown of law and order and to uphold community standards. He added that the case was handed over to the Police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspects are in custody and assisting with investigations. They said the men would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations in line with the state’s criminal laws.
The Bauchi State Police Command reiterated its commitment to working with relevant agencies, including Hisbah, to address acts that threaten public morality and security. Officers said collaboration between conventional and Sharia enforcement units helps address sensitive community issues.
The Command urged residents to report suspicious activities to law enforcement and avoid taking the law into their hands. It also cautioned against spreading unverified information that could inflame tension in the area.
