It was a day of drama and conviviality, of poetry and of music, of fun and of laughter. It was a day to remember.

Friday June 25, 2021, would remain eternally engraved in the memories of parents, pupils, management, staff and well wishers of the Frontliners Schools in the Alagbado area of Lagos State.

On that day, the Frontliners School which has earned a great renown for providing quality education at the primary level marked the Father’s Day.

And they did in grand style.

Father’s Day which was founded in  early 20th century in the United States of America, has transformed into a global celebration on an annual basis.

The third Sunday of June is the traditional day set aside to mark the day.

As the name implies, it is a day to appreciate fathers and celebrate them. For a school that has a standard, Frontliners was not ready to tread the banal, colourless way of appreciating and celebrating fathers on this year’s Father’s Day.

They did it in their unique way which has not just raised the bar, but set a benchmark in the celebration of Father’s Day.

It won’t be surprising if other schools adopt the Frontliners approach in future.

Head of the schools, Mr. Benjamin Fasakin explained why Frontliners took the celebration of Father’s Day to such dizzying heights.

“In Frontliners Schools, we revere our fathers. In fact, we hold them in high esteem because of the very important role they play in the lives of our pupils and our schools.”

“So, when we were to mark this year’s Father’s Day, our proprietor, Mrs. Esther Aliu, a seasoned educationist, said that we must in appreciating and celebrating our fathers, put up a command performance to reflect the high esteem in which we hold them”.

That was exactly what the school did on Father’s Day.

There was a variety of events lined up for the occasion which took place in the school hall.

After all the formalities, like the opening prayers and introduction of the fathers,  the nursery pupils took the stage and fired the first salvo.

They belted out songs in their sonorous voices to eulogise fathers.

The lower grade pupils took over the stage after the nursery pupils.

They  recited poems to celebrate fathers and they gave a good account of themselves.

The upper grade pupils sang and performed choreography thereafter to the delight of all.

The members of staff also took their turn and they sang songs to celebrate the fathers.

Though the pupils and staff put a great performance,  it was the fathers who indeed stole the show.

They played  different games including a brain teaser, but it was the cooking event that headlined the day.

A father, Mr. Dayo Osideinde exhibited such culinary skills which hitherto were considered the exclusive preserve of the women folk.

As the seductive aroma of the egusi (melon) soup which he prepared wafted through the atmosphere, many were salivating, while the women around were green with envy.

Mr. Osideinde proved that what mothers can do in the kitchen, fathers can do far better.

Mr. Charles Ibrahim who was named Father of the Year prepared the semovita to go with Mr Osideinde’s egusi soup.

It was fun all the way.

There was the cutting of a cake to commemorate the occasion and the presentation of gifts.

An elated Mrs. Aliu could not hide her joy at the end of the occasion.

In her closing remarks, she thanked fathers for their continued support, loyalty and faith in the Frontliners Schools.

With the electric excitement that enveloped the hall, it was evident that guests would have wished that the celebration continued.

But like every event that has a beginning, it must also have an end. Thus, the Father’s Day celebration ended on a high and with memories that will linger for a very long time.
