Media personality Funmi Iyanda and artist Ayoola Gbolahan are set to headline an exciting literary evening titled Oya Chronicles: In Conversation With My Mother in London, United Kingdom.

The event, scheduled to hold at Kachette, 347 Old St, Shoreditch, London EC1V 9LP on Sunday, August 27 from 6pm to 10pm will explore trauma, parenthood, love and family using art, dance, conversation, poetry.

According to the organizers, Oya Chronicles is the physical embodiment of a haunting imagined literary piece that is a dialogue between the Nigerian television host and writer Funmi Iyanda and her mother.

“What begins as a dialogue between mother and daughter emerges as a timeless, ageless, and genderless conversation between two humans, each longingly searching for the other, extending their hands through eternity, reaching for love and healing, but mostly, for each other,” explained an email from the organisers.

Incorporating dance and voice acting to recreate this conversation, and transporting it from page to stage, the performance process presents dialogue as an important bridge to healing.

Organised by Oya Media and Kanbi Contemporary in London, the event bridges performance, music, and spoken word with the art of Lagos-based artist, Gbolahan, and an invitation to step out of day-to-day consciousness and embrace the philosophy of his Blue Woman.

The event will include an auction sale of Gbolahan’s 2015 painting ‘And Freud Said He Doesn’t Know’.
