The Chairman of Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima has said that Kano State is very open to empowering women through sports especially football.

He made this statement while speaking with the media at the recently concluded grassroots competition amongst secondary schools in Kano.

“I must confess to you that in all the 19 northern states we have in Nigeria only the likes of Adamawa, Nasarawa,Taraba and Kogi States have fully embraced women football.
All other states are yet to catch up and Kano State is not an exception especially in this part of the country where women are conservative in nature,” Galadima said.

The former boss at the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF  also said that  Kano state will embrace women football, adding that the just concluded school sports competition where girls  participated and competed for honours in handball, track and field events was a good example of the plan of the state for young girls of the state.

He went further to praise the board of the NFF in it attempt to hire a foreign coach for the Super Falcons, as he admitted that the local coaches were not encouraged in the time past.

“I am indeed okay with the idea of our local coaches working with a foreign coach to expand their knowledge, ” he said.

In an emphatic tone, he was vivid in giving the NFF a pass mark as the federation has done well in encouraging Nigerian coaches to further their knowledge in the coaching profession and continuously improve their capacity in the round leather game.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are the current champions of the Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) and it is indeed very sad  that a single preparatory match has not been played since winning the cup in December 2016 when they defeated the Lioness of Cameroon , the host of the tournament 1-0.

Meanwhile, Flamingoes of Nigeria will trade tackles with their Under 17 counterpart from Ethiopia in the second leg qualifying game for the FIFA Under 17 World Cup to be hosted in Uruguay in November , 2018.
