CYRIACUS IZUEKWE

A 53-year old man, Peter Isaac, has been arrested in Lagos for turning his wife, Faith, 48, into a punching bag in their matrimonial home over sex.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Abeokuta Street, Anifowoshe area of Ikeja, Lagos, where they occupy a room apartment with their five children.

The husband was said to be angry that his wife was fending for him but denies him sex despite the fact that he was married to her.
But the wife, Mrs. Faith, said that she cannot continue to allow her husband to have sex with her in the presence of their children in their one room apartment. Besides, the husband was practically jobless and she was the person fending for the family.
“I hawk banana on the streets and go through stress for the whole day while he will be in the house playing draughts game. Then at night when I need to rest a little, he will want to have sex in the presence of children” she complained.

An embittered Mrs. Faith said that she was not deliberately denying him sex, saying she was under stress and pressure to fend for the family. And the most annoying part is that he will be busy playing draughts games only to come and disturb her at night.
It was gathered that Peter, who reportedly hails from Imo State, got married to Faith about 17 years ago and they had those children.

Mr. Peter, who was a company worker, lost his job and the wife managed to buy a motorcycle for him to use to make some money and support the family. But according to his wife, he preferred to remain idle; doing nothing but playing draughts game leaving the burden of family on her.
However, her decision led to constant beating by her husband to the extent that the assault was reported to the Police. The Police then arrested Peter and transferred him to the Gender Section of the Police Command for interrogation.
After interrogation there, the Police found him culpable and later charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for assault.
He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Benson Emerhi, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the offence. The prosecutor also informed the Court that Peter is violent and if he continues to stay in the same apartment with his wife, he might beat her to death.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Sule-Amzat, granted Peter bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
He was also directed to temporarily relocate elsewhere pending when he will be able to stay with his wife peacefully.
