For a 14-year old Primary five school girl, who was raped, impregnated and recently delivered of a baby boy, it will certainly be traumatic to remember the circumstances that led to the birth of the baby.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the victim was molested and forcefully raped by a 67-year old landlord, Sanni Arowolo, which later resulted in pregnancy that led to her giving birth when her mates are still in school building for better future.
Narrating her ordeal, the victim said that she was in her aunt’s shop, where she sells food, when Arowolo also known as Baba, came and pretended that he wanted to buy food in February, 2019.
“My aunt was not around when Baba came to our shop and approached me that he wanted to buy food and asked me to follow him to his room to collect a plate. I asked my younger sister, who was at the shop with me, to follow him and collect plate but he refused insisting that I must go with him.”
“On getting to his room, he locked the door from inside and forcefully had sex with me, threatening to kill me if I revealed the incident to my aunt” she said.
The victim kept the sexual assault to herself until April, 2019 when her aunt observed that she was pregnant. After much persuasion, she opened up that it was Arowolo who raped and impregnated her.
She said, “It is something that really breaks my heart each time I think of it. The man was friendly with us. We related with each other as father and daughter. I never expected he could do such a thing”.
She said that after the rape, she was shocked and so traumatised but did not reveal what happened to her aunt because Arowolo threatened to kill her and bury her secretly at the cemetery.
However, the sexual assault got exposed after the victim became pregnant and mentioned Arowolo. The aunt then contacted her family members on the matter and it was reported at the Ikotun Police Division. Arowolo was arrested and detained at the Police station for investigation.
During interrogation, Arowolo denied defiling the girl and was about to be released by the Police when a nongovernmental organization, known as Advocate for Children and Vulnerable Persons, intervened.
Hence Arowolo was eventually charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for defilement and remanded in prison custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s report expected in November, 2019, when the matter was adjourned.
P.M.EXPRESS correspondent learnt that the girl gave birth to a baby boy on Saturday 5th October, 2019, and was kept in protective custody.
