Girl, 15, Remanded For Mercilessly Flogging 79-year Old Woman During Squabble

Police operatives from the Ejigbo Division of the Lagos State Command have arrested a 15-year old girl, Rejoice Favour, for allegedly flogging a 79-year old woman, Mrs. Esther Amodu Layeni and inflicting injury on her body during a squabble.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 8th August, 2024 at Taiwo Street, Ejigbo area of Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police,  the suspect did unlawfully assault the victim by using a stick on her head, hand and all over her body, which caused life threatening injury.
However, the Police did not state what caused the quarrel which made the suspect to use the stick on her and injured her in the process to the extent that she was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
The matter was reported to the Police and the suspect was arrested and detained for interrogation over her alleged conduct.
After interrogation, she was found culpable and then charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
Part of the charge read:
That you, Rejoice Joseph ‘f’, on the 8th day of August, 2024, at about 0310hrs, at No 1, Taiwo Street, Ejigbo, Ejigbo, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully assault one Mrs. Esther Amodu Layeni 79yrs old ‘f by using stick to hit her on her head, hand and all over her body, causing her life threatening injury and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 173 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor,  Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted her bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 13th October, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in juvenile center pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
