Glasgow 2026: Team Nigeria’s Stunning Green-and-White Attire Steals the Show as Commonwealth Games Open in Style

Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games officially came alive on Thursday night with a breathtaking Opening Ceremony that blended Scotland’s rich heritage, cutting-edge technology and vibrant cultural diversity.

Amid the dazzling celebration, Team Nigeria emerged as one of the evening’s biggest attractions, turning heads with its elegant green-and-white ceremonial attire that drew widespread admiration from spectators inside the packed OVO Hydro Arena.

Clad in beautifully tailored outfits that proudly reflected Nigeria’s national colours, the Green and White delegation marched confidently into the arena to loud cheers from the crowd. Their striking appearance immediately became one of the defining images of the ceremony, with many spectators and members of the international media praising Team Nigeria as one of the best-dressed delegations at the Parade of Nations.

Inside the OVO Hydro, thousands of spectators welcomed athletes from 74 Commonwealth Games Associations in a historic Parade of Nations that, for the first time in Commonwealth Games history, featured Para and non-Para athletes entering together before the formal commencement of the ceremony, an important symbol of equality and inclusion.

The spectacular ceremony began with a dramatic entrance by His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who appeared on stage through the iconic TARDIS from the long-running British television series Doctor Who. The audience was then treated to an unforgettable showcase of Scottish culture through music, dance, digital storytelling and artistic performances celebrating Glasgow’s industrial heritage and its status as a UNESCO City of Music.

As each participating nation presented its uniquely decorated King’s Baton, the arena transformed into a vibrant tapestry of colour, symbolising the unity, diversity and enduring friendship among Commonwealth nations.

His Majesty King Charles III later declared the 23rd Commonwealth Games officially open, welcoming athletes and officials to Glasgow while encouraging the Commonwealth family to celebrate excellence, friendship and a shared commitment to building a better future through sport.

The royal appearance added another memorable chapter to the history of Commonwealth and Olympic opening ceremonies. It recalled Queen Elizabeth II’s iconic appearance during the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony alongside James Bond actor Daniel Craig, one of the most celebrated moments in modern sporting history.
