Billionaire mogul and Globacom Chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jnr, has joined the growing list of billionaires raising hopes in the fight against the novel Covid-19 as he donated an initial sum of N1 billion to the Federal Government and N500 million to the Lagos State government.

The businessman made the donation on Monday, through his foundation, The Mike Adenuga Foundation.

In a letter to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and delivered by his daughter, Mrs. Bella Disu, Adenuga stated that, “the various timely, broad and focused measures being put in place are highly commendable and worthy of support as they shall in due course end the insidious propagation of the dreaded virus.

“We wish, Sir, to affirm our unequivocal readiness to work with the Lagos State government in ensuring a smooth and expeditious achievement of Your Excellency’s noble objectives.

“We are to this end attaching herewith our bank cheque in the sum of Five Hundred Million naira (N500,000,000) as our modest initial contribution to the success of the laudable efforts being vigorously pursued under Your Excellency’s proactive and brilliant leadership.”

Adenuga added, “We shall in addition to this contribution actively continue our ongoing efforts to assist various bodies and institutions in the country with the supply of such essential items as Sanitizers, Masks, Test kits, Ventillators, PPEs and other necessary requirements.”

In another separate letter to Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, the Globacom founder applauded the federal government’s measures to address the negative impact of COVID-19 virus on the health, finance and other sectors of the economy.

He also lauded the CBN’s Nigerian Private Sector Coalition Against COVID-19, which he described as a commendable and worthwhile initiative that deserves the moral and financial support of all stakeholders of the private sector.

“Given its broad scope and focused thrust, we are convinced that effective execution of the well-articulated objectives of the coalition is certain to yield the type of very positive results that will stand the country in good stead in the ongoing battle to checkmate the malignant COVID-19 virus,” he stated.

“We are towards this end pleased to attach a bank cheque in the sum of One Billion Naira (N1, 000, 000, 000) as our modest initial contribution to the success of this welcome initiative,” Adenuga wrote.
