A 38-year old gospel music artiste, Abiodun Badejo, who was arrested for allegedly raping his 29-year old girlfriend after he failed to cover her mouth with pillow and engaged her in violent sex as she demanded, has been remanded in prison custody in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that following the report by the lady in question, the Police at Ipaja Division arrested Badejo and transferred him to the Gender Section of the Command. From there, he was subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for rape.

The incident happened at Fagnuye Street in Baruwa area of Ipaja, Lagos, where Badejo resides.

The lady was said to have visited him and he engaged her in sex but she later alleged that the suspect, Badejo, had raped her.

The Police charged Badejo for statutory rape and his plea was not taken following the motion moved by the prosecutor, Mr Victor Eruada, that the matter should be referred to the DPP for advice.

Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M. O. Tanimola, ordered Badejo to be remanded in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned till 2nd March, 2021, for the report of the DPP to be ready in order to determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.

Badejo, who was said to be in a state of shock, had told the Police that they had agreed to have sex while chatting before she visited him. He was said to have shown the Police the details of their chats before the lady visited him to pass the night with him.

According to family sources, Badejo may have offended her by not doing what she requested before she visited him that day.
In a WhatsApp chat between the lady and Badejo, she told him that she usually screams whenever she is in the sexual mood and likes it violent before she will be satisfied. She reportedly advised him to use a pillow to cover her mouth during the action and treat her violently while it lasts, which he never did.
After the act, she was said to have then become angry, attacked Badejo and later went to the Police alleging that she was raped.

The fate of Abiodun Badejo is now hanging in a balance as he is facing prosecution before the Court, which may entail him spending several years in prison custody if he is found guilty.
