Gov Willie Obiano has directed the contractor handling the construction of Eke-Agbaagba, Uli Road in Ihiala Council area to immediately commence asphalting the 1.5 km stretch on the road where drainage and earthwork have been achieved.

However, the road project was reportedly progressing smoothly until a major gully developed and stalled progress of work, threatening to cut the road in two.

Governor observed during his visit that the 32-meter deep gully had been successfully checked with a major drainage being constructed to channel water to the nearby Enyija stream.

While addressing the people after the inspection exercise, Gov Obiano, said the directive to commence asphalting was to ensure that the drains and earthwork achieved were not washed away when the rains fully set in.

He explained that he came to see what has been done with the funds he has released for the road project and expressed satisfaction with what he saw on ground.

The governor said that the road is important as it leads to major agrarian communities of Ihiala Council Area as well as the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University campus in the area.

Earlier in his remarks, the Member representing Ihiala Constituency One, Hon. Chidi Udemmadu recalled that the road was impassable as at last year due to the gully challenge, but noted that with the governor’s intervention, people of communities in the area can now heave a sigh of relief; describing him as God-sent.

In his contribution, Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C. Don Adinuba, who is from the area, noted that aside the infrastructural development projects of the present administration which were visibly sparsed in the council area, Gov Obiano has through his well thought out economic policies, given better meaning to the lives of the people.

The President General of Uli Community, Ogbuehi Dan Imochukwu thanked Gov Obiano for keeping to his promise to construct the road and assured that they will give the contractor every support required to deliver the project on schedule.

The traditional ruler of Uli, Igwe Damian Onyekaonwu and other stakeholders in the area who were present expressed their gratitude to the Gov Obiano when recieved him with  unprescedented ovation.
