The Executive Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, was the special guest of honour at the 5th anniversary celebration of his Bayelsa State counterpart, Governor Douye Diri.
The event, which commenced on Monday, featured the inauguration of a 1.475km major road project in Yenagoa, the state capital.

As Vice Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, Governor Otu commissioned the 24 High Profile Road in Okaka, Yenagoa, and commended Governor Diri for his prudent management of state resources.

“Considering the quality of this road, it is evident that Senator Diri is making judicious use of revenues from the federation allocation,” Otu stated.

He described Governor Diri as a bold and visionary leader, widely respected for his commitment to development. Otu also praised his counterpart for prioritizing continuity by completing projects inherited from previous administrations.

“Completing inherited projects is commendable; it reflects the essence of governance and continuity,” he remarked.

Expressing his admiration for Diri’s developmental strides, Otu noted that Bayelsa is witnessing significant infrastructural progress, including initiatives aimed at achieving a 24-hour power supply. He urged Bayelsans to continue supporting their government to facilitate further development.

In his response, Governor Diri thanked Otu for honoring the invitation and highlighted the transformational impact of his administration’s projects across the state.

“The inauguration of road infrastructure and other key projects is a major highlight of our fifth anniversary. The face of Yenagoa is changing for the better,” Diri stated.

He also acknowledged the Obenibe-Epie, King Malla Sasime, and the people of the area for maintaining peace, which enabled the successful execution of the project.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, Governor Diri also launched a statewide medical outreach program, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to healthcare and overall development.
