The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR and his amiable wife, Dr. Mrs Nonye Soludo, were at Onitsha earlier yesterday to celebrate with His Royal Majesty Obi Alfred Achebe (Obi Of Onitsha) on his 20th Ofala celebration.
The Governor, during his address to Ndi Onitsha, said that this was the third time he was celebrating the Ofala of His Majesty Igwe Achebe, and the first Ofala he has attended as a Governor and this being special because he came with his wife (laughs and applauds).
He commended Igwe Achebe, who is the Chairman of the South East Traditional Rulers Council, for what he tagged “20 years of impactful rulership” in Onitsha, throughout Anambra and in the southeast.
Mr. Governor added that Onitsha has great and a very colourful culture that is beautiful to behold.
“Onitsha is the largest city in the East of the Niger but my recent first hand report of the road within and around Onitsha showed that a whole lot of roads had been dilapidated and abandoned. But we are putting efforts to make Onitsha great again. With roads from Fegge, till Niger Street, Akpaka… and Woliwo area under the Government’s radar for reconstruction…We can assure Ndi Onitsha that the solution is here.”
He added that Onitsha is known far and wide for its unique culture, which abhors evil men, banditry and touts otherwise known as agberos from being inducted into the great Ozo traditional title of Ndi Onitsha.
He added that Igbos have awesome and beautiful culture, which should be protected.
Others in the governor’s entourage were the Chief of Staff to the Governor; Chief Ernest Ezeajughi, Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief Protocol; Mr Chinedu Nwoye (Glamour) and other Government officials.
