Following protests by students of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) on Monday in Akure, Ondo State, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu met with the student leaders from AAUA and NANS regarding the unrest resulting from the fee increase by the Governing Council of Adekunle Ajasin University.
It would be recalled that the school authority announced increment in tuition fee from N33,000 to between N180,000 and N220,000.
It was reported that Akeredolu issued the directive on Tuesday March 13, 2018 when he inaugurated members of the Governing Boards of the Four Tertiary Institutions in Ondo.
Governor Akeredolu had in his address at the event declared that the tuition fees paid in some of the state-owned tertiary institutions could only purchase a pair of shoe. He particularly urged the new boards to improve funding in the schools through increment in tuition fee and endowment funds.
After the meeting with the student leaders from Adekunle Ajasin University and NANS regarding the unrest resulting from the increase in tuition fees, Governor Akeredolu said they resolved that the protest be suspended to allow for the meeting of stakeholders.
“We are convinced that we will reach an amicable solution that ensures that our great institution is run sustainably and the welfare of our Students is adequately addressed” he said.
