The founder of the International Charitable Initiative for Girl Child and Woman Development Foundation (ICI-GWODEF), Barrister Helen Ibeji has condemned the abduction of Dapchi School Girls by a group suspected to Boko Haram in Yobe State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Mrs. Ibeji stated this recently in Lagos during her interaction with journalists on the state of the nation.
The group said that the abduction of 105 girls, students of Government Girls Science Technical College (GGSTC) Dapchi, Yobe State has shown the security lapses in the society and wondered when it has become an offence for the girl child to get education in Nigeria.
She regretted that while some of the Chibok girls abducted in April, 2014 were yet to be rescued, that another set of students were abducted again despite the huge amounts budgeted for security in Nigeria.
“It is not Uhuru for security agencies! What is really going on! It is noteworthy that the Nigeria Military had claimed that they have defeated Boko Haram, but it seemed to be a camouflage of the danger especially for the vulnerable girl child”.
Ibeji stated that the Girl Child and Woman Foundation commiserates with the families, parents, government and people of Yobe State for the trauma they were passing through. She said ICI-GWODEF insists that the girl child have the right to education and all other rights as enshrined in Chapter IV, Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended.
The group called on every Nigerians and the Federal Government to ensure the success of girl child education in Nigeria. They also appealed to the security agencies to intensify action in ensuring that the girls were brought back as soon as possible.
It will be recalled that the students were abducted recently, kept in captivity and since then the security agencies were yet to rescue them. But the Federal Government has assured that the victims will be successfully rescued but the government was yet to find them.
