Guinness Nigeria Champions Climate Action Through Stakeholder Dialogue On Sustainable Future

As conversations around climate resilience and environmental sustainability continue to gain urgency globally, Guinness Nigeria Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to driving collective action towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.

 

The company joined policymakers, sustainability experts, environmental regulators, waste management practitioners, corporate leaders, public relations professionals, and members of the media at a World Environment Day 2026 dialogue held under the banner of the Nigeria Conservation Race (NCR 2026), organised by Addefort Nigeria. The virtual forum focused on identifying national and sub-national environmental challenges while exploring practical and innovative solutions to Nigeria’s sustainability concerns.

 

Held under the theme, “Climate Action in Nigeria: Challenges and Opportunities,” the dialogue provided a platform for robust discussions on pathways to building a more environmentally responsible and climate-resilient nation.

 

Representing the Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, Mr. Bankole Michael, Director & HOD, Climate Change & Environmental Planning Department, Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, emphasised that climate action is both an environmental and economic imperative. The presentation highlighted Lagos State’s efforts in sustainable transportation, waste management, clean air initiatives, flood resilience, renewable energy adoption, and youth engagement, while calling for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to accelerate climate action and build a more sustainable future.

 

Speaking at the event, Lead Consultant, Addefort Limited and Convener of the Conservation Walk and Conference, Olabamiji Adeleye, underscored the growing importance of climate action in Nigeria and the need to bring diverse stakeholders together, not only to discuss environmental challenges but also to drive meaningful and measurable action.

 

Also speaking at the dialogue, Olukemi Ogunsakin, Head of Corporate Communications, Sustainability and CSR at Guinness Nigeria Plc, stressed that meaningful climate action can only be achieved through sustained collaboration among governments, businesses, communities, development partners, and citizens. She further highlighted the importance of creating green jobs as part of efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change while supporting inclusive economic growth.

 

“Climate change is too complex for any single stakeholder to address alone. The most impactful partnerships are those that create the enabling conditions for large-scale action and long-term change,” she said.

Participants at the dialogue explored a range of critical issues, including climate adaptation, waste management, environmental governance, corporate sustainability, and opportunities for innovation in the transition to a low-carbon economy.

 

The event reinforced the growing consensus that while climate challenges remain significant, they also present opportunities for innovation, collaboration, job creation, and sustainable development. Stakeholders agreed that meaningful progress will require collective commitment and coordinated action across sectors to shape a cleaner and more resilient future for Nigeria.
