Just days after the release of teachers and pupils kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area, the education sector in Oyo State has been hit with another incident as the Headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Ogodu, Igbojaye, Mr. M.K. Owoade, was reportedly kidnapped.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Itesiwaju LGA, Comrade Mrs. Fabiyi Folashade, raised the alarm over the abduction which occurred yesterday at Nomadic Basic School, Ogodu, Igbojaye in Itesiwaju LGA.

According to the NUT Chairman, the full details of the incident remain unclear as no contact has been made by the abductors to the family of the headmaster or to the management of Nomadic Basic School, Ogodu.

“The picture at this point is not very clear as no contact has been made by the abductors to the family or Nomadic Basic School, Ogodu, Igbojaye,” she said.

Security agencies have been notified and are said to be working to establish the circumstances surrounding the abduction and to secure the safe release of the headmaster.

The incident has heightened concerns over the safety of school administrators, teachers, and pupils in rural communities across the state.

The abduction comes less than a week after teachers and schoolchildren kidnapped in Oriire LGA were released following a 56-day ordeal. That rescue mission came at a heavy cost with the death of Lieutenant Felix Ademe Isaac, who was killed during the operation.

Stakeholders in the education sector have called for urgent measures to protect schools, especially in border and remote areas.

“The education sector appears to be in a precarious situation across the nation,” Comrade Fabiyi noted. “Our prayers are for the Almighty to grant the Headmaster a quick and safe rescue.”

Parents and teachers in Igbojaye and surrounding communities have also expressed fear over the development, urging government and security agencies to intensify patrols and surveillance around schools.

As at about 8:20am on Sunday, a search team recovered Mr. Owoade’s motorcycle, which had been abandoned in a nearby bush.
Mr. Kolawale Owoade was reportedly kidnapped on Saturday between 5:00 pm and 6:00pm while returning from his farm at Budo Aare in Itesiwaju LGA.
