Here Are Iconic International Locations Wizkid Has Shut Down

On Wednesday night, Wizkid, Nigerian-born Grammy award-winning singer dazzled music lovers during his concert at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York.

The talented singer had earlier shared several billboards showing off the sold-out status of the 20,000-capacity venue.

He becomes the second Nigerian singer to headline a concert at the venue after Burna Boy achieved the feat in April.

Wizkid now joins the likes of Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Adele, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Justin Bieber, and  Mariah Carey who have sold out the famous arena.

However, the Starboy, as many fans call him knows how to not only sell out any location but properly shut it down with electrifying performances.

During the electrifying night, the Nigerian international music star delivered a live rendition of some of his hit songs —mostly from his fifth album titled ‘More Love, Less Ego’.

He wowed many more when he played ‘Dami Duro’, one of Davido’s hit songs, as a tribute to the memory of Ifeanyi Adeleke, Davido’s son at Madison Square Garden.

Wizkid was later presented the Sold Out Plaque at the Madison Square Garden.

American Rap legend, Busta Rhymes later hailed Wizkid for his outstanding performance at the Madison Square Garden.

The rapper approached Wizkid backstage to congratulate him on his superlative performance that rock the entire Big Apple.

Royal Albert Hall

The Royal Albert Hall is a concert hall on the northern edge of South Kensington, London. It is one of the United Kingdom’s most treasured and distinctive buildings.

The hall can seat 5,272 people. Since the hall’s opening by Queen Victoria in 1871, the world’s leading artistes from many performance genres have appeared on its stage.

Wizkid made international news in 2017 when he became the first Afrobeat musician to headline a sold-out event in London’s Albert Hall.

Wizkid shut it down through his one-hour set, starting the night with songs from when he was with EME to his rise as Africa’s number one artist. He also brought Wande Coal out to share the moment with him.

Skyway Theatre

Wizkid also sold out the 10,000 capacity Skyway Theatre in Minnesota, on October 6, 2018.

He is the first African artist to sell out the theatre.

Due to this feat, he was rewarded with a day set aside to celebrate him, called Wizkid Day.

O2 arena

The O2 Arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena in the centre of The O2 entertainment complex on the Greenwich Peninsula in southeast London.

At 20,000 seating, it has the second-highest seating capacity of any indoor venue in the United Kingdom, behind the Manchester Arena, and as of 2020, the O2 Arena was still the busiest music arena in the world in terms of ticket sales.

Wizkid made history by becoming the first musician from Africa to sell out the O2 Arena more than twice, first at the AfroRepublik event there in 2018 and then at the Starboy Fest there in 2019. However, his most memorable performance at the O2 occurred in 2021, when he sold out his three-day tickets in a matter of minutes.

Accor Arena, Paris

In September 2022, Wizkid sold out the 20,000-capacity Accor Arena for his Made In Lagos’ concert.

Fans were stunned when they discovered that Kylian Mbappe, PSG teammate Hakimi, Popcaan, Naomi Campbell and a rumoured appearance by Twitter former CEO Jack Dorsey, had attended the sold-out ‘Made In Lagos’ concert France stop.

Mbappe had been recorded by a fan who had also attended the historical concert with Popcaan, Naomi Campbell and rumoured Jack Dorsey all backstage with Big Wiz himself.
