The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria, His Excellency, Md. Shameem Ahsan says he has gotten the mandate of his country to reveal the success story of Bangladesh in agriculture during the first-ever agro technology exhibition and conference tagged Agritech Nigeria Osun 2019 next year’s March.

Ambassador Ahsan told the Management Team of Agritech Nigeria Osun 2019 when the team paid him a courtesy visit at the Embassy in Abuja on Thursday that though Bangladesh is a country with small geographical boundary, its huge population has been a plus as they are one of the best agricultural nations in the world today.

“We are around 160 million people, but we are not up to Nigeria in size, but I can tell you we have sustainable food security for our huge population,” said Ambassador Ahsan, who said he was a former journalist before turning a career diplomat. The High Commissioner received the Agritech Nigeria team with his Third Secretary, Mohammad Shah Ekramul Hoque.

He disclosed that the High Commission of Bangladesh has been following Agritech Nigeria event since Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs introduced it to them through a Note Verbale in August.

“We are glad to hear about the change in date to next year’s March because we have a scheduled national trade fair back home which could have prevented us from attending the Agritech Nigeria event this year.

“I have seen written a memo to our headquarters in Bangladesh requesting for our full participation as a country. Everybody was so happy that we will be having a platform to showcase our rich agricultural heritage in Nigeria. We will also organise a session where we will be telling the world the secret behind the success of Bangladesh in agriculture.

“I will implore you to furnish us with the details on the deadline for registration and payments so that we can fulfil all obligations to take part in the agro technology event,” said Ambassador Ahsan who received the delegation from Agritech who included Hon. Claudius Kolajo, the Special Adviser on Agriculture and Food Security to the Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the Executive Director, Comrade Yahaya Majeed and the Program Director, Mr. Taiwo Adelu.
