Hon. Anthony Ikenna Okafor: A Shift From Money-Driven Politics

A political campaign founded primarily on money can never birth genuine representation. Rather, it inevitably degenerates into a trade-by-barter system of politics. When huge financial capital becomes the sole prerequisite for seeking public office, the electoral process ceases to be a contest of ideas, competence and character, and becomes a mere commercial transaction.

 

This is the tragic reality of Nigeria’s contemporary electoral system. Our democracy has deteriorated into a marketplace where candidacy is auctioned to the highest bidder. The culture of political godfatherism, delegate inducement, vote-buying and exorbitant nomination fees has completely eroded ideological engagement. As a result, public office is no longer viewed as a call to selfless service, but as a business investment that must yield returns.

 

The consequence of this logic is predictable. An individual who spends excessively to attain power will, upon getting there, inevitably lock his gate against the very people he was elected to serve. His priority becomes recouping his investment and settling his political creditors, not fulfilling his social contract with the electorate.

 

It is for this reason that I believe in a clear departure from this old order. I stand for Hon. Anthony Ikenna Okafor to represent the good people of Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency.

 

He represents a shift from money-driven politics to character-driven leadership. He is a man of proven good character, humility and a genuine, caring spirit for his people. His aspiration is not based on trade-by-barter politics, but on a sincere commitment to deliver better, accessible and people-oriented representation.
