The honourable member representing Ehime Mbano, Ihite-Uboma and Obowo Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dcn. Chike John Okafor, has declared his intention to contest for the speakership of the House of Representatives ninth assembly in a letter written to the APC National Working Committee.
Okafor, the Chairman of Nigeria House of Representatives committee on health care services when making public his intention to vie for the position, pledged his strong determination and resolve to lead the House for a common cause aimed at raising the bar of socio-political and economic development of our country, Nigeria. He also promised to revamp the integrity of the House and redirect it on the path of honour and in line with the democratic principle of Separation of Powers.
Okafor promised to lead by the rules of the House and learn from the mistakes of the past leadership of the house in the interest of progress, socioeconomic and political development of the country if given the mandate. He stated that he has worked hard to earn the confidence of members who would vote the next Speaker, and further stated that the House under his leadership would mark the beginning of another path to consolidate on the progress made by former members of the House of Representatives.
While promising to run an all-inclusive leadership aimed at complementing the Next Level Agenda of the President, Okafor said if given the mandate to serve as the speaker of the ninth assembly, it will not be business as usual following the prevailing economic challenges in the country, saying utmost best is needed from lawmakers to meet up with the challenges of the legislative work they are elected to do.
