Hon. Chike Okafor, representing Okigwe South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Prof. Humphrey Nwosu.

Hon. Okafor in a heartfelt condolence message, described Prof. Nwosu as a visionary whose work fundamentally shaped Nigeria’s democratic landscape.

Prof. Nwosu, remembered for his role as chairman of the National Electoral Commission, oversaw the landmark June 12, 1993, presidential election, often celebrated as the most transparent in Nigeria’s history.

Hon. Okafor highlighted Prof. Nwosu’s establishment of the Option A4 voting system and the open ballot method as key innovations that set enduring standards for transparency and integrity in elections.

“Prof. Nwosu’s commitment to a credible electoral system set a benchmark that continues to inspire our nation,” Hon. Okafor said, emphasizing the lasting influence of Nwosu’s contributions.

Beyond his role in public office, Prof. Nwosu was a revered academic whose tenure at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, inspired countless students and contributed significantly to political science and governance studies.

Hon. Okafor expressed confidence that Nwosu’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations both in Nigeria and beyond.

Hon. Okafor extended his condolences to Prof. Nwosu’s family, friends, and all those who were touched by his life, noting the shared sense of loss felt across Okigwe South.

“May his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy endure as a beacon of hope for a stronger, more democratic Nigeria,” he added.
