The lawmaker representing Ikeja Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, ARK, has hosted the 8th Stakeholders Meeting.

The event, which took place on Thursday 30th June, 2022, was held at Eko FM Multipurpose Hall, LTV 8 Premises, Lateef Jakande Way, Agidingbi, Lagos, with the theme “2023 General Election: The Imperatives of Permanent Voters Card (PVC)”.

The Stakeholders Meeting was powered by the Lagos State House of Assembly and held simultaneously in all the 40 Constituencies of Lagos State with Hon Kasunmu hosting members of Ikeja Constituency 2.

In his keynote address, Hon Kasunmu said, “I am exceedingly delighted to welcome you to the 8th edition of our Annual Constituency Stakeholders Meeting with the theme ” 2023 General Elections: The Imperatives of Permanent Voters’ Cards”, which will be the last edition in the life of the current 9th Legislative Assembly”.

“As you are all aware, the general elections for the next democratic dispensation would be held from February 2023, hence the need to commence preparations to ensure its success at all levels. The imperatives of the Permanent Voters Card as mentioned in the theme is hinged on the need to ensure that we are eligible to exercise our civic responsibility.”

“We engage in active participation in the general elections especially in ensuring that we vote the right, trustworthy, competent and capable candidates to be our leaders and representatives at all levels of government. Of course, the need for this cannot be overemphasised as a very important civic duty and a critical key to ensuring the sustenance of our transformative government and enduring democracy in the State and the nation.”

“While commending you, our Constituents, for being responsive to matters affecting our communities and the State at all times, it is however, quite worrisome that over 20 million PVCs still remain uncollected across the nation according to a recent INEC report and out of the huge figure, one million are from Lagos State. This situation does not augur well for our progress, our democracy and the development of the state, as it may create an opportunity for incompetent persons to be elected as our leaders and representatives and thus overturn our achievements.”

Hon ARK posited that the PVC is the power not just to continue to build the state but the nation as well. He said that the PVC symbolises the power for continuity, stability and sustainability of our enduring and cherished democracy. The young and energetic lawmaker charged all and sundry to ensure the success of the forthcoming elections by obtaining the PVC.

The event also provided an opportunity for Hon Kasunmu to highlight the achievements of the National Leader and Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as the architect of modern Lagos.

The Chairman of the APC Chairmen of the Local Government Areas in Lagos State, Alhaji Dally-Adeokun, in his remarks, also highlighted the need for the stakeholders and the party faithful to go out and mobilise the people to go out, register and be eligible to vote.

A representative of the electoral umpire, INEC, used the opportunity the Stakeholders meeting afforded to address some areas of concern raised by the teeming Constituents.

The 8th Edition of the meeting attracted Ikeja & Ojodu Stakeholders, party chieftains, traditional rulers, community leaders, religious leaders, youth groups and a good number of members of the All Progressives Congress.
