The Police intelligence team at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos, has arrested a 15-year old house girl,  Miss Chiamaka Odo, who demonstrated her cruelty on a 6-month old boy, Master Obiora Osokolo, by suffocating the baby to death.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Platinum Street, Jakande area of Lekki, Lagos, where they reside.
According to Police sources, the girl, Chiamaka, was said to have been brought to Lagos by the victim’s parents as a house help and she turned out to be the one that has brought sorrow to the family.
The girl was said to have murdered the little Obiora kept in her care by the parents, who went to work and by the time they came back, they found him dead and the suspect, Chiamaka, was unable to explain what happened to him.
The manner of the boy’s death raised suspicion and the matter was reported to the Police. The house help, Chiamaka, was arrested and detained for interrogation over the sudden death of the little boy.
During interrogation, she reportedly confessed to have strangled the boy because she was angry with his parents and she killed him as a form of revenge.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged her before the Yaba Magistrates Court for murder, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
When she was arraigned, the Court did not take her plea after the prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice since the victim is a minor.
The Presiding Magistrate,  Mr. P.E. Nwaka, ordered her remand in the Juvenile Centre pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
