A 16-year old house maid, Miss Halimat Sodiq, has reportedly been lynched and secretly buried at the cemetery for allegedly stealing her madam’s N2000 during the Covid-19 lockdown in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Bariga area of Lagos, where the victim resided with her madam, Mrs. Shade Moke.
Police operatives from Bariga Division, Lagos, have arrested the principal suspect, Mrs. Shade Moke and three other men who reportedly assisted her in brutalizing the deceased which caused her death.
This was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, who said that the four suspects were in Police custody undergoing interrogation over the death of the house maid.He said that that on 9th May, 2020, at about 1130hrs, Bariga Police Station received information that one Shade Moke ‘f’ 41 years old conspired with three others and killed one Halimat Sodiq ‘f’ 16 years old over an allegation of stealing. The victim was said to be a house maid to Shade Moke. She was alleged to have stolen N2000 from her madam which she denied.
DSP Elkana explained that the madam, Mrs. Moke, invited the remaining three suspects, who then tortured the girl to death and buried her secretly at Atan Cemetery in Lagos, so as to conceal the murder.
He said: “The four suspects were arrested but they denied the allegations. They however, admitted slapping the girl for denying that she stole the money. They claimed that the girl went into convulsion after drinking water. That they took her to three different hospitals before she eventually died. That the girl was buried by her parents not the suspects.”
DSP Elkana revealed that the deceased parents were also contacted for their statements and the Commissioner  of Police Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCIID, Yaba, for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution. He said that the suspects will soon be charged to Court after the conclusion of investigations and may likely be charged for murder which attracts life imprisonment if they are tried and found guilty before Court.
