A 42-year old woman, Gift Yahaya, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stabbing her female neighbour, Kehinde Adesanya, over suspicion of her sleeping with the husband.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 26th July, 2024, at Oyebanjo Junction off Elebuju Street, Alapere area of Ketu, Lagos, where they reside.
As a result, she has been charged before an Ogudu Magistrate Court for allegedly stabbing the woman, Kehinde Adesanya, after accusing her of having an affair with her husband.
The defendant, Gift Yahaya, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and assault.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the Court that the defendant committed the offences by attacking and assaulting the complainant by slapping and hitting her several times.
“She, thereafter, stabbed the complainant on her left hand with a broken bottle.
The complainant sustained a deep injury on her hand.
“The defendant had accused the complainant of having an affair with her husband,” Bassey said.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Section 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
She pleaded not guilty.
The Presiding Chief Magistrate, O.A Daodu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 5th September, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
