Facts have emerged on how two female lawyers, Barrister Nkiru Nwanyawu, 40 and Adaobi Emeka, 37, threw decency to the wind in Lagos and engaged in public fight over client inside Court premises.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the fight took place at the Ojo Magistrates Court, Lagos, where the two lawyers went to solicit for clients, which led to the public fight.
They were arrested by Police operatives from Ojo Division and subsequently charged before the Court for the alleged offence.
The Police alleged that the lawyers fought over who will get the brief of the suspects produced in Court. It was reported that one of them, who is pregnant, Adaobi, first offered her complimentary card to the suspects to brief her but the move was opposed by Barrister Nkiru, who immediately threw her card on the floor.
That led to the fight in the premises of the Court on 16th March. In reaction, Adaobi flung the card belonging to Nkiru outside the Court window, got a slap from her and removed her wig.
They started fighting in the Court but were arrested and detained at the Police cell.They were later released on self recognition and charged before the Court for fighting.
They pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol John Uche, then asked the Court to give a date to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. A. A. Adesanya, granted them in the sum of N100,000 with one responsible surety in like sum.
They were remanded in custody pending when they will perfect their bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 18th May, 2021.
