Two night security guards,Yahaya Yakubu, 42 and Sunday Akpabio, 58, have been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly attacking one of their employers and robbing him of the sum of N400,000 at night while he was returning from work.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Unity Drive by Baale Bus Stop, Idimu area of Lagos, where the victim, Mutiu Adenekan, resides with his family.
According to the Police, the victim,  Adenekan, was returning from work at about 11.35pm and was about to enter his house before the suspects accosted him and used cutlass to inflict injury on the victim’s hand and face before robbing him of the said money.
It took the intervention of their neighbours including his wife, who heard him screaming and rushed out before he was rescued and rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
The matter was reported to the Police at Idimu Division and the suspects were arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over their alleged conduct.
During interrogation, they were unable to explain why they attacked the victim despite the fact that he lived in the area and was among those who engaged their services.
The Police found them culpable and consequently charged them before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for wounding the victim and stealing, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, they pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 26th March, 2024, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
