How 3 Guards Burgled Indomie Noodles Warehouse & Carted Away N1.1bn Worth Of Items

Three security guards employed by Indomie Noodles company have been arrested and charged for conspiring and burgling the company’s warehouse and carting away items worth N1.1bn in Ebonyi State. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the guards, Idika Chukwu, 70, Nwachukwu Abel, 47 and Mbam Moses, 58, were charged before the Abakaliki Magistrate Court, Ebonyi, for conspiracy, burglary and stealing over their alleged conduct by carting away items valued N1.1bn.

According to the Police, they were employed as security guards at the Indomie Noodles Warehouse in Uburu, Ohaozara. And while at the warehouse, they conspired and carted away the items.

 

However, when the company conducted an audit of the stocks in the warehouse,  they discovered that it was looted and they were summoned the guards to explain what happened. But they were unable to explain what happened.

 

The matter was reported to the Police at the Ebonyi State Command. They were then arrested and charged before the Court for alleged theft.

The Prosecutor, Eze Chinagorom, told the court that the guards committed the offences between August, 2023 and July 2024, at Umunaga, Uburu in Ohaozara, Ebonyi.

Chinagorom further said that the defendants broke into the warehouse belonging to Indomie Noodles company to steal the goods including packets of blank cover, pillar lights, bedside lamps, wall bracket stands and covers, and reflectors, among others valued at N1.1.bn.

The prosecutor said that the offenses contravened Section 390(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 33 Vol 1 Law of Ebonyi State, 2009.

However, they pleaded not guilty.

 

The Defence Counsel, Mr. Intelligent Ekwe, prayed the Court to grant the defendants bail in the most lenient terms and promised that the defendant will not jump bail and would provide reliable sureties. He also asked the court to transfer the matter to Ohaozara, where the matter emanated from.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Sandra Ifeanyi-Onyibe, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N2 million each, with two reliable sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

 

The matter was adjourned till 5th September, 2024, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
