An 18-year old female motorcycle passenger was abducted on her way to work and gang-raped by four men including a motorcycle operator in Ogun State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened Ogijo area of Sagamu Local Government area of Ogun State, where the victim was accosted while she boarded a motorcycle on her way to work.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed that two of the suspects are in Police custody while the remaining two are still at large.
SP Oyeyemi explained that a commercial motorcyclist connived with other men to gang-rape the victim after they forcefully took her to a place and had sexual intercourse with her.
He stated that two of the suspects, Emmanuel Thompson and Joshua Godwin, have been arrested, detained and are undergoing interrogation over their conduct.
Oyeyemi stated that their arrest followed a report by the victim at the Ogijo Police Division over what happened to her. The Police immediately went into action, which led to the arrest of the suspects.
“The victim (name withheld) had told the Police that she boarded a commercial motorcycle at about 8:00am from MRI Company area to Ogijo Bus Stop on Tuesday, but on the way going, the rider, who carried another male passenger with her, suddenly diverted to another route, while the other male passenger started threatening to kill her if she did not cooperate with them.”
Oyeyemi said the teenager reported that “they forcefully took her to a room in one house in the area, where two other men were waiting for them.
“On getting there, the two men they met in the room and the accompanied male passenger took turns to have sex with her forcefully.”
He stated that acting on the report, the DPO of Ogijo Division, CSP Onatufe Umoh, detailed his detectives to the scene, where two of the suspects were apprehended as their other accomplices escaped.
He said that the two arrested suspects have confessed to the commission of the crime.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Lanre Bankole, has directed the transfer of the suspects to the State CIID for further investigation and directed that the fleeing members of the gang be hunted for and brought to book.
SP Oyeyemi stated that the suspects will be charged before the Court for conspiracy and rape but that will be after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
