Police operatives have unraveled how a cleric, Abass Tiamiyu, murdered a 25-year old lady, Barajas Belahu, who went to him for spiritual assistance, cut her body in parts, stuffed it inside a sack and then dumped it by the stream.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened between 10th and 11th May, 2022, at Oyetoro Community, Oroki area of Oyo State, where they reside.

However, the dastardly act got exposed and the Police operatives from Oyo State Command arrested Tiamiyu and detained him for interrogation.

After thorough interrogation, he was found culpable for murder.

He was thereafter arraigned on Friday before the Iyaganku Magistrates Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, for conspiracy and murder, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty.

The Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Olusegun Adegboye, had earlier told the Court that Tiamiyu and one other at large, between May 10 and May 11, at Oyetoro Community, Oroki area, Oyo, caused the death of Belahu.

”The victim was a client of the defendant. After murdering her, he dismembered her. He threw her remains in a sack and dumped her decomposing body by a stream,” Adegboye told the Court.

Adegboye stated that the offence is contrary to the provisions of Section 316 and punishable under Sections 319 and 324 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mr. Emmanuel Idowu, refused to take his plea and ordered his remand in custody.
The Court directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP at State Ministry of Justice for legal advice while he would be in custody pending the outcome of legal advice.

The Court ordered that the cleric be remanded in Abolongo Correctional Facility for alleged murder pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction and adjourned the matter until 19th July, 2022, for mention.
