The digital transformation agenda of the #PeoplesGovernor Hope Uzodimma administration has recorded another major milestone as the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) announced that the Ministry of Transport generated over ₦451 million in the first six months of 2026 through its technology-driven E-Ticketing Platform.
The Executive Chairman of the Imo State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Justice R. Okoye, disclosed that the Ministry realized ₦451,082,160 between January and June 2026, surpassing the total revenue generated in the entire 2025 fiscal year, which stood at ₦425,088,534.86.
According to him, the achievement highlights the growing impact of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s digital governance reforms, which place technology at the centre of transparency, accountability, efficiency, and sustainable economic development.
The E-Ticketing Platform, introduced to automate revenue collection from commercial road transport operators across the state, has significantly reduced leakages, improved compliance, strengthened accountability, and enabled real-time monitoring of government revenue.
Revenue records released by the IIRS show a steady progression over the years. The Ministry generated ₦132,452,975.81 in 2020, ₦188,364,890.78 in 2021, ₦243,815,158.02 in 2022, ₦175,221,001.00 in 2023, and ₦116,169,835.01 in 2024 before rebounding strongly to ₦425,088,534.86 in 2025. The first half of 2026 has already exceeded every previous annual record.
The IIRS Chairman noted that generating more revenue in six months than in any previous twelve-month period demonstrates the enormous potential of digital technology in strengthening internally generated revenue and improving public financial management.
He further revealed that cumulative revenue generated by the Ministry of Transport from 2020 to June 2026 has reached ₦1,732,194,555.48, describing the figure as evidence of the success of the administration’s institutional reforms and commitment to innovation.
Okoye stated that beyond increasing revenue, the digital platform has simplified payment processes for commercial transport operators while providing government with reliable real-time data for planning, monitoring, policy implementation, and informed decision-making. He added that the system has also strengthened taxpayer confidence through greater transparency and accountability.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Imo State Internal Revenue Service, the Executive Chairman said the agency would continue to expand the digitalization of tax administration across all sectors of the state’s economy. He explained that the focus remains on deploying innovative technologies, improving taxpayer experience, strengthening compliance, and building a transparent, efficient, and globally competitive revenue system capable of supporting the economic vision of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
The latest revenue performance is widely regarded as another indication that the state’s investment in digital governance is yielding tangible results, positioning Imo as one of the states leveraging technology to drive sustainable economic growth and improve internally generated revenue.
